Following yesterday's bargaining session and info picket at Providence Center, Butler Workers Picket at Kent Hospital
Providence: Today, Butler workers and other union members across SEIU 1199NE are holding day two of their Care New England informational pickets at Kent Hospital from 10AM-4PM. Yesterday, they held an informational picket at Providence Center to demand CNE bargain in good faith to settle a fair contract with the over 800 Butler workers who have been without a contract since the end of March.
At the same time, around 150 Butler members held contract negotiations for nearly 6 hours yesterday, making only incremental progress with plans to return on Thursday, June 19. Butler's over 40 member union negotiating committee made the decision to expand participation for more members to partake in the process with or without the presence of federal mediation.
On May 30, 2025, Care New England sold a portion of its property to Laurelmead Realty LLC, a retirement community adjacent to Butler Hospital, for $15.7 million, as confirmed by The Providence Journal. This announced sale comes on the heels of recent reports showing that CNE posted a $1.2 million operating gain in the second quarter of fiscal year 2025, following a $3.4 million operating gain in the first quarter.
