    After Over 10 Hours of Meeting with a Mediator, Butler Workers are Even Farther Back than Where They Started

    “We remain committed to reaching a fair contract tomorrow but until management recognizes our worth and returns to the table in good faith, we will have no choice but to continue our strike."

    Providence -  More than ten hours after workers began meeting with a federal mediator to try to move contract negotiations forward and end the unfair labor practice strike, Butler Hospital has offered union workers even less than they did on Wednesday, May 7, the last time they offered their “last, best and final proposal.” 

    We began negotiations today with a clear goal: to reach a contract agreement that ensures fair pay, addresses workplace violence, and improves staffing. Unfortunately, management gave us a set of proposals with lower wages, higher healthcare costs, less on retirement and no movement on our workplace violence committee. We are more than ready to return to work and resume caring for our patients — but we should never have to choose between our safety, our livelihoods, and the profession we love. We remain committed to reaching a fair contract tomorrow but until management recognizes our worth and returns to the table in good faith, we will have no choice but to continue our strike.
